The kakahu is perfect for graduations or other ceremonies, as well as birthdays, where it provides the look of a korowai without the full length.
This korowai, or kahu huruhuru to be exact, is made by a Māori lady of Ngaāti Porou descent. She creates them on a sewing machine, to make them affordable.
The korowai has a Navy, Tan and White Taniko, with tiger stripe feathers followed by navy feathers. The taniko has a patiki design, which spiritually means abundance, prosperity, and care of others.
This korowai measures approximately 1m wide, and 20cm (8") deep. It is lined with black fabric.
