It all started in the South Island of New Zealand, last century, when Thomas J Edmonds developed his own baking powder in response to the dissatisfaction of customers for the variety available at the time. His Edmonds "Sure-to-Rise" Baking Powder was an instant success, and the cook book made its first appearance in 1908.
As Edmonds expanded their range of products the cook book came even more popular. It became a standard gift when couples got married, and in latter years when young people went flatting.
All the recipes have been tried and tested for almost a century, and more have been added over the years. You still find the Kiwi classics, like Anzac Biscuits, Pavlova, Bacon and Egg Pie, and Golden Syrup pudding, so it is a marvellous cookbook for Kiwis to take overseas.
