A natural phenomenon, Marsden Jade is only found in the Marsden Valley, on the South Island of New Zealand. A relatively rare greenstone (pounamu): greenstone infused with iron, infiltrating the greenstone rock over time from tumbling water or minor cracks.
The greenstone then takes on the iron infused colour, so you have this beautiful green stone edged with shades of cream, yellow, orange and brown. Simply, exquisitely beautiful.
These toki necklaces are shaped like an adze head. Toki were an important Māori implement, and a hei toki (toki necklace) is imbued with a spiritual meaning, one of power, wisdom and authority.
